SR 525 vehicle holding lane to close two more nights near ferry terminal

SR 525 Bridge Sidewalk Expanded(WSDOT): The sidewalk along northbound State Route 525/Mukilteo Speedway near the Mukilteo Ferry Terminal is now open and more than twice as wide as it used to be, but our work isn’t finished.

We will be back out on the bridge over the BNSF railroad tracks for two nights next week to seal the sidewalk and install pavement markings. We need to close a portion of the vehicle holding lane for the ferry terminal to get this done. The nightly lane reductions will be from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, through Wednesday morning, Dec. 13. Dry weather is needed to complete this work. If Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate, we’ll need to reschedule one or both nights.

Access to the ferry terminal will remain open during the work, and pedestrians should use the sidewalk along southbound SR 525 across the bridge, using crosswalks at First and Fifth streets.

The sidewalk along northbound lanes is an important route for pedestrians and others using mobility devices to cross the railroad tracks and reach the Mukilteo Ferry Terminal, Lighthouse Park and waterfront businesses.

To add the extra 4 feet of width and make it 7.5 feet wide, we removed the shoulder and slightly narrowed the vehicle holding line for the ferry terminal. The project also added Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps and upgraded the railing over the bridge.
