On November 19, the Mukilteo Police Department will host a community forum to highlight the safety risks associated with the use of vaping and e-cigarettes. Health Educator Mary O’Leary, BS, M.Ed, of the Snohomish Health District will be the guest speaker.
Mary has been involved in education for 25 years and the past 7 years she has been with Snohomish Health District. She is part of a health team that has increased efforts to combat opioid addiction and she assists with youth marijuana and vaping prevention efforts from the Health District. Mary’s experience as a healthcare educator is a valuable asset and educating parents, teens and community members about the risks associated with vaping and e-cigarettes is a welcomed contribution to public health.
“Vaping has become the prevalent topic of conversation and debate in the community. It is so important that adults as well as teens learn the real health and safety risks from these products. I am committed to protecting public health in our community and providing accurate information is a key element in efforts to help avoid health risks,” said Mukilteo Mayor Jennifer Gregerson.
Vaping and e-cigarette related health concerns are surging nationwide. The rise in the use of vaping products and e-cigarettes among teens are driven by a lack of accurate information about their health risks.
“It is important that teens and community members learn factual information about vaping and e-cigarettes so responsible health related decisions can be made. Too many times these devices can encourage the use of more dangerous substances,” said Mukilteo Police Chief Cheol Kang.
