Mukilteo to Hold Virtual Open Houses on the Surface Water Comprehensive Plan Update

The City of Mukilteo is holding two virtual open houses on the Surface Water Comprehensive Plan Update. The updated plan has been in development for the past year, and the City is interested in sharing a progress update and getting feedback from the public. The plan will provide a road map for addressing water quality, flooding, and habitat issues.

The virtual open houses will be held on Thursday, October 26 at noon and 6 p.m. Each meeting will cover the same topics and will be one hour long. The meetings will consist of a presentation, polling, and opportunities to ask questions and make comments.

The Surface Water Comprehensive Plan Update will guide decisions, identify and prioritize future projects, and determine how Surface Water Utility funds are spent. Stormwater planning helps make sure service levels meet system, regulatory, and community needs, and can be supported by utility rates and other funding sources. The plan is scheduled for completion in early 2024 and will be presented to City Council for their approval by April 2024.

Stormwater management services in Mukilteo are provided by the Surface Water Utility, a division of Mukilteo’s Public Works Department. The Utility’s efforts help reduce the impacts of urban stormwater runoff on the built and natural environments through programs that reduce flooding, protect water quality, detect pollutants, mitigate stormwater impacts on steep slopes, and safeguard habitat. Operations and maintenance programs care for pipes, ditches, catch basins, detention ponds and vaults, infiltration facilities, and provide for street sweeping.
