Community Crime Map

In conjunction with Snohomish County’s two dispatch centers, SNOPAC and SNOCOM, Snohomish County police agencies released a new crime mapping system for Snohomish County citizens and businesses.  The crime mapping system is provided by LexisNexis Risk Solutions and can be viewed at https://communitycrimemap.com/.

This is a no-cost program that configures Mukilteo crime data into a viewable map that allows residents to view data from police reports. It also allows the public to sign up for email alerts about crimes they want to be aware of within a certain distance of their homes, workplaces, and schools.

Mukilteo’s Mayor Jennifer Gregerson said, “This is a great program that further enhances our community-police partnership.  The crime map will improve awareness and allow current and future residents to better understand public safety issues in Mukilteo.”

The Community Crime Map builds on the regional police records system shared by all Snohomish County police agencies by taking data from police reports and putting it on a map.  Citizens can filter what crime types they want to view and select time periods for the occurrence of those crimes.  The system can display concentrations of criminal activity as well as the report number, the date and time of the incident, and the general location of the incident.  To protect privacy, the actual incident location is randomly offset on the map.

Mukilteo’s Police Chief Cheol Kang said, “The system includes analytical software that will prove to be effective in detecting potential crime patterns where patrol resources can be more effectively deployed to eliminate them.”
