About “Cool Girls in Aerospace”
In January 2016, Mayor Jennifer Gregerson announced her 2016 Action Agenda items including “Cool Girls in Aerospace”, a special summer session offered through Edmonds Community College designed to inspire middle school girls to consider future careers in the aerospace industry. Taking math and science can be cool, especially when you get to experience first hand working in a high-tech lab and learn how to make stuff using the very same materials used to make a Boeing 787 or rocket!
Due to popular demand, we are again bringing back this special learning opportunity for a maximum of 10 girls who will be in middle school this fall or between the ages of 12 -16 to apply to participate.
When: August 14 – 17, 2018 from 9am
- August 14, 9 – 11am: Tour of Work Force Development Center
- August 15 – 17, 9am – noon at the WATR Center. Hands-on lab instruction with a certified Edmonds Community College instructor.
August 14: Work Force Development Center
1400 Airport Road, Suite 100, Everett, WA 98204. Transportation provided from Mukilteo City Hall
August 15 – 17: Washington Aerospace Training & Research Center (WATR) at Paine Field
3008 100th St. SW, Everett, WA 98204. Transportation provided from City Hall
Who: Middle school girls ages 12 -16
How much? FREE!
What else? A parent or guardian must approve participation. City staff and WATR Center employees will chaperone. “Cool Girls in Aerospace” will be provided FREE to the participants through a grant from the City of Mukilteo. Questions? Email us or call 425.263.8018.
Priority will be given to girls who are members of the Mukilteo Boys & Girls Club and YMCA, attend school within the Mukilteo School District and can demonstrate great attitude, safety for themselves and others, and excellent overall club performance. The Mayor, with input from staff, will make the final participant decision. You must complete the online application by the deadline to be considered. City staff will contact parents by phone or email to determine eligibility, and parents must sign authorization forms (provided later).
