On Monday, March 11, there will be a community presentation from local high school students who visited Tokyo and Naha, a City in Okinawa, as part of the Kakehaski Project. The Kakehaski Project is a fully-funded, large scale youth exchange program between Japan and the United States. It is promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and coordinated by the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) and the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICC).
In December 2018, students completed a 9-day trip to Japan where they visited a number of historical and educational sites, experienced traditional and cultural activities, and participated in lectures and workshops. Prior to their trip in early November 2018, 23 students from Naha came to Mukilteo and were hosted by local families.
The students will provide photographs of their visit, and share their expectations and observations of their trip. They found that while Japan and the United States have different language and culture, there were many enjoyable similarities.
This special presentation will be held beginning at 5:30pm on Monday, March 11 at Mukilteo City Hall located at 11930 Cyrus Way, Mukilteo. This is a free event and the public is invited.
