October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the City of Mukilteo will support this National effort by encouraging police officers to wear pink badges on their uniforms while Mukilteo firefighters will wear pink T-shirts while on duty. The new look will be observed during the month of October. These first responders purchased the badges and T-shirts themselves to help raise awareness and show support for the fight against breast cancer. A portion of the sales will be donated to breast cancer research.
According to U.S. breast cancer statistics, 85% of breast cancers occur in women and in the United States. One in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. The risk of breast cancer in men is about 1 in 1,000.
“You don’t have to look far to find someone who has been effected in one form or another by this disease. I’m proud that our Police and Fire Departments are supporting this fight against breast cancer”, said Mukilteo Mayor Jennifer Gregerson.
“I have authorized the men and women of our department to wear pink badges in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is an important cause and we are pleased to partner with the fire department to be part of the effort to fight breast cancer”, said Police Chief Cheol Kang.
