Mayor Gregerson Announces “Cool Girls in Aerospace” Partnership

Mayor Jennifer Gregerson announced that Mukilteo will again partner with Edmonds Community College and the Washington Aerospace Training & Research (WATR) Center to give 10 area middle school girls an introduction to the aerospace industry as a future career.  This is the second time the City has sponsored this event; in 2016, the City, United Way of Snohomish County, IAM 751 and Harbour Pointe Senior Living pooled their resources to offer this program to local girls.

“The aerospace industry is the largest business sector in Mukilteo and this kind of introduction for girls will inspire them to consider STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) options,” stated Mayor Gregerson.  “These girls will have an opportunity to work in a real-life training lab at the WATR Center built to simulate world-class manufacturing facilities such as those here in Mukilteo.  I’m proud to bring city resources to young women in a safe, summer camp atmosphere to expand their horizons in career exploration. They could be part of the next generation of employees for many of our Mukilteo-based employers.”

“Cool Girls in Aerospace” will run from August 14 – 17, 2018 and include a tour of Work Force Development Center (August 14), and a 3-day curriculum at the WATR Center to complete a project using manufacturing equipment and many types of aerospace materials used to make rockets and jets.  The city is looking for a maximum of 10 girls aged 12 – 16 years old that will attend middle school or high school in the fall of 2018.  Applicants must attend school within the Mukilteo School District.

This year, the United Way of Snohomish County and Community Transit are co-sponsoring this event with the City of Mukilteo.  This unique experience is free to participants; transportation and chaperones will be provided.  For more information, call (425) 263-8018 or email.
