About the Mukilteo Fire Department
The Mukilteo Fire Department traces its history back to 1922, when the first fire hydrants were installed in Old Town. In 1940, Snohomish Fire Protection District Number 2 was formed preceding the incorporation of the City of Mukilteo in 1947. Then in 1962 the Snohomish Fire Protection District and the Mukilteo Volunteer Fire Department became two separate entities and contracted fire protection for the City of Mukilteo. The department was staffed solely by volunteers until 1992 when the first career firefighters were hired. The department continued as a combination volunteer/career department until 2010 when it became a fully paid department. Our goal has always been to continuously adapt to meet the needs of our community.
Today, the department has a full-time sworn staff of 27 members, a Senior Department Assistant, a Fire Marshal, and a Fire Chief. The Fire Department occupies two fire stations strategically placed in the community. Fire Station 24 is in Old Town and Fire Station 25 is located in Harbour Pointe. The Fire Department provides services in fire suppression, advanced life support emergency medical services, fire and life safety education, and fire prevention. The Fire Department's mission has remained the same for over 100 years. We exist to protect life, property, and the environment by providing the dynamic services of our organization 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Fire Chief is the administrative head of the department. The 27 sworn staff members respond from both fire stations (24 & 25). Each station has 3 personnel on duty around the clock. The 3 shifts (A, B, & C) work a 48/96 rotation. Those personnel staff a fire engine or ambulance, depending on the emergency. All administrative staff offices are located at station 25 in Harbour Pointe.
The department receives funding from the City’s general fund, an EMS levy, and ambulance transport billing. See below for the most recent organizational chart.
