Mukilteo Social Media Policy

The City of Mukilteo is committed to using new electronic tools to communicate with residents and visitors. The City Council has adopted a Social Media Policy (PDF) to guide the use of social media platforms while ensuring that existing laws and policies regarding free speech, public records, transparency and communications are observed.

Social media platforms are not a mechanism for conducting official city business, other than to informally communicate with the public. This includes conducting meetings, making policy decisions, official public noticing, and discussing items of legal or fiscal significance that have not previously been released to the public.

All City accounts are subject to public disclosure, including any comments or other content posted or shared on City social media profiles. Social media users are subject to the privacy policies of their respective social media platform, the City makes no warranties regarding the safety or security of using social media sites.

All content created by the City for use on social media platforms is copyrighted and may not be used for commercial purposes without license. The City reserves the right to remove inappropriate comments on social media posts as described in section 9C of the Social Media Policy (PDF).
