At the first City Council meeting of the year on January 2, 2018, Steve Schmalz was selected to serve as City Council President for 2018. Councilmember Christine Cook was selected to serve as Vice President.
Council President Schmalz stated “I’d like to see the Council more involved in setting meeting agendas and setting priorities. I want to work with everyone on Council so we work more efficiently and smarter. We all want what’s in the best interests of our residents and can work together to achieve that.”
The role of the Council President is to preside over City Council meetings in the absence of the Mayor, work with the Mayor to determine the agenda, and oversee Council Committees.
