New Sidewalk Connecting 2nd and 3rd Street Open for Public Use This Week

The City has opened the new sidewalk along the east side of SR 525 between 2nd Street and 3rd Street (along Totem Park), just in time for next week’s Lighthouse Festival. This project connects a ‘missing link’ for pedestrian access.  These new sidewalks mean there are continuous pedestrian facilities along the east side of SR 525 from the new traffic signal at First St. to south of 5th St.

“I am so pleased that the sidewalk is going to be available for travel this week,” says Mayor Jennifer Gregerson. “Perfect timing as folks can use this to head down to the Lighthouse Festival next weekend!”

The City was awarded Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) grant funds for the design and construction of the SR 525 Sidewalks project.  The Council accepted the grant funds on January 6, 2020 and design began in March 2020.

The sidewalk will be open for public use this week, and lighted bollards will be installed thereafter.
