Mukilteo Police Supports “Movember”

November is men’s health month and the Mukilteo Police Department will be supporting this event by encouraging participating officers to donate to Prostate Cancer research. In exchange officers will be able to go without shaving their beards for the entire month of November. No-Shave November, or Movember, is aimed at growing awareness about this cause by embracing hair which many cancer patients lose.

The most recent Prostate Cancer data reveals that in 2015, 183,529 new cases of Prostate Cancer cases were reported. On average, one in every four deaths in the United States is due to cancer and Prostate Cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer related deaths among men.

“The male officers of our department have been encouraged to participate in Movember and forego the grooming requirement of shaving for the month of November. However, Guidelines have been established to maintain a tasteful and professional appearance while officers enjoy a more relaxed look. This is an important event and I’m pleased that our staff will be helping raise awareness for men’s health and fight against cancer”, said Police Chief Cheol Kang.
