City Seeking Student Applications for 2020 AWC Scholarship

The City of Mukilteo is seeking applications from students interested in a $1,500 scholarship sponsored by the Association of Washington Cities’ (AWC) Center for Quality Communities Young asian woman presenting an education concept to her peers.Scholarship fund.  This scholarship program is a state-wide competitive process and intended to support students who want to attend college or a trade program. Up to six $1,500 scholarships from AWC will be awarded to high school students who plan to pursue a post-secondary degree in fall 2020. Scholarship funds, which can only be used for education expenses, will be sent directly to the student’s learning institution.

Deadline to apply: Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 4:00 PM Pacific Time.

“Our award-winning schools and community have inspired many students living in Mukilteo to volunteer their time in school and community leadership projects,” said Mukilteo Mayor Jennifer Gregerson.  “The City’s Mukilteo Youth Advisory Committee is one such group of highly motivated Kamiak High School students who advise me and the City Council on youth-related issues in our community.”

To be eligible, a student must be graduating from high school, home school or receiving a GED in Spring/Summer 2019 and live within the Mukilteo School District.  In addition, the applicant must plan to continue their education at an accredited post-secondary instruction in the 2020/2021 academic year on at least a half-time basis and have been involved with City government or with a community/school leadership activity.

“Our 2019 nominee, Sargun Handa, was an exemplary student and was one of the top six applicants state-wide to receive this scholarship. I know there are many other great Mukilteo students who would also deserve this honor,” said Mayor Gregerson. Her sister, Simran, won one of the six statewide scholarships in 2015.
