December 10th, 2022 9am – 12pm
Mukilteo Police Department (10500 47th Pl W)
The Mukilteo Police Department hosted a “Gun Buyback” event on December 10th, 2022. Participants exchanged unwanted firearms for gift cards. This program was part of Mukilteo PD’s ongoing efforts to reduce gun violence and unwanted firearms in our community.
The Mukilteo Gun Buyback was approved by Mukilteo City Council as part of the annual budget. The program aimed to reduce gun violence within the community and to reduce the likelihood of accidental injuries and suicides by firearms by providing residents an opportunity to voluntarily relinquish ownership of unwanted firearms in exchange for pre-paid gift cards.
Below is a recap of the event:
41 Total Firearms were turned in
6 Semi-Automatic Pistols
1 Pellet rifle (taken as a courtesy, no gift card given)
$2,850 in gift cards were distributed.
Firearms were accepted anonymously. Anyone can still voluntarily turn in firearms during regular office hours at the police station (though, a gift card will not be given in exchange).
