Lodging Tax Advisory Committee Meeting

The Mukilteo Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) will reconvene on Tuesday, December 5 at 6pm to listen to 2 Lodging Tax Grant application presentation for grants that the City Council recommended for different funding amounts than those recommended by LTAC. One grant is from the 2017 lodging tax grant cycle, and the other is a new 2018 grant.

2 Lodging Tax Grants Being Reconsidered

On October 5, 2017, LTAC met to listen to and deliberate funding for 17 lodging tax grant applications received by the City of Mukilteo. Of these new applications, 14 were recommended for 2018 funding from the Hotel/Motel Tax Fund and 3 were not recommended for funding. Two 2017 grants, Japanese Gulch Wayfinding Signs was carried over to 2018, and LTAC recommended an additional $6,000 be awarded to the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival Association to offset additional and unexpected expenses related to the 2017 Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival held last September; their original request for additional funding was $12,500. The City Council has recommended this additional grant request be increased to $12,000.

A 2018 grant, “Discover Mukilteo” sponsored by Brand Builder Media, was recommended by LTAC for funding at $15,000 compared to the grant request of $33,750; the City Council has recommended this grant be funded at $30,000, giving LTAC 45 days to reconsider both. (RCW 67.28.1817)

The outcome of this meeting will be for LTAC to send their reconsideration of the City Council’s recommendations back to Council for final grant determination at the City Council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.  This is the first time the City Council has remanded lodging tax grant(s) back to LTAC for reconsideration.
