Free Women’s Self Defense Workshop
June 4, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
The Mukilteo Police Department is proud to be sponsoring a FREE Women’s Self-Defense workshop at the YMCA on June 4th 2016. The event will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The course is offered to provide women and teens with information on personal safety, with an emphasis on self-defense techniques. The course will be instructed by Mukilteo Police Officer Andy Illyn and Sergeant Colt Davis. The course is intended to provide attendees with a basic awareness of one’s surroundings and basic techniques for protecting one-self with an emphasis on disengagement and escape. Police Chief Charles Macklin states, “We want to proactively equip our citizens so they do not become victims of crime.”
Officer Myron Travis also stated, “These self-defense workshops have been really popular with the community. We are bringing this event to our residents again to hopefully build their awareness and provide information that will help avoid and prevent assault.” Students wishing to participate in the class should be prepared to interact with the instructors and do some moderate stretching and exercise. Please wear workout apparel and bring water and a towel. Students will practice the techniques that are being taught. Students will be required to complete a liability waiver prior to participating in the class.
Advanced registration to attend the workshop is required. Please contact Crime Prevention Officer Myron Travis at firstname.lastname@example.org. The class will be limited to 20 students and additional classes will be planned for later in the year.
While the class is free to participants, donations will be accepted to benefit Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County.
The YMCA is located at 10601 47th Place West Mukilteo, WA 98275.
