[ARCHIVED] Edgewater Bridge demolition begins – a major milestone for the project

Edgewater Bridge Replacement

Edgewater Bridge demolition begins – a major milestone for the project

(City of Everett)

Demolition of the existing Edgewater Bridge is about to begin, marking a dramatic and highly visible turning point in the project! Starting Monday, May 5, Everett’s contractor will begin carefully removing the old bridge piece by piece. The process will begin with sawcutting and removing three sections of the bridge deck, followed by dismantling the floor beams and girders. Once those are out, the five bridge spans will be removed one at a time—a truly striking and complex operation that will take several weeks.

While this work will be noisy and involve heavy equipment, it’s an exciting sign that we are entering a new phase of construction where progress will be more noticeable and predictable. We appreciate the community’s continued patience as this critical work moves forward.

Schedule update

As with any major infrastructure project, unexpected underground conditions have affected our schedule. Many of these issues have been addressed. As a result, the bridge is now expected to open in early 2026, with work continuing through the first quarter of the year. While the timeline has shifted slightly, we’re optimistic that the next phase will bring steadier progress. We are working closely with the contractor to make up time wherever possible.

We know how important this bridge is to the community, and we are committed to delivering a safe, long-lasting replacement. To stay up to date, view detour routes, and sign up for updates, visit the Edgewater Bridge Replacement Project webpage.

Important Safety Reminder

As always, the bridge and surrounding work zone remain closed to the public. For your safety and the safety of the crews working high above a 90-foot ravine, please respect the construction barriers. Only authorized City staff and contractor personnel may enter the site. Your cooperation helps keep everyone safe.
